“A little Jewel

What a lovely welcoming camp. Beautifully situated on the bank of the river. Animals come down to get water. The bird life is wonderful. A small but very welcome plunge pool.
The tents are very comfortable. The staff couldn’t be more helpful.
We will be back”

Peaceful Stay

We stayed at Kulalu for 2 nights to celebrate an 80th birthday. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was very good and we had Avery enjoyable time. With easy access to Sala Gate into Tsavo West, this is an ideal spot to spend some safari time.

Great location, great camp

Great Location, – camp directly on the banks of Galana River. Very nice staff, clean, spacious and beautiful tents. 5 tents only, one of them a very spacious family tent – so very private. Very exclusive, fabulous food.
No fence around the camp, so animals can pass through any time 👍
Only 12 km from Sala Gate and around 100 km from Malindi (tarmac road). Entrance into Tsavo East is not necessary, because you can do game drives in the Galana Conservancy. Very private und nice landscape, good game viewing.
At the moment is Kulalu the far best camp in Tsavo East area 😁🧡🥰!
We definitely will be back next year, we fell in love from the first moment!

Trip type: Travelled with family

Room Tip: Perfect river view from all of the 5 tents, comfortable new tents

Peace

It was a delight to revisit one of my favourite bends in the Galana river and to find the camp beautifully re-established after the latest natural disaster. The river itself has changed shape, a few trees are missing, but the site is still as magical as ever. The beds are as comfortable, the showers as generous, and the atmosphere as serene as I remember. We were wonderfully looked after by Bush, who unobtrusively takes responsibility for almost everything, making sure your glass is full, your plate is more than full, and just about everything else is as it should be. He is backed by a friendly and welcoming crew, eager to make sure you have the very best of times.
We had some good sightings on safari but, for me, the real joy of Kulalu has always been being able to lounge outside your tent, or by the bar, and watch the comings and goings of the animals as they come down to the river to drink or to rest in the shade. This ‘activity’ has been hugely enhanced by the new addition to the facilities of a plunge pool.
Sitting or floating in the cool water after a lovely lunch, a group of very relaxed (and, I confess, rather giggly) people, watched warthog and baboon, hartebeest, zebra and impala inter-acting on the opposite bank of the river. We decided that this was undoubtedly the highlight of a thoroughly enjoyable trip.

Trip type: Travelled with friends

Room Tip: As far as I know, all the tents have a view to the river. You can ask for twin or double beds

Wonderful place to relax and experience Africa.

Kulalu Camp is a great place to stay near Tsavo East National Park. You don’t have to pay park fees to spend the night there. If you decide to go into the park or the near-by reserve they are both close by. The camp is well situated right on the river so you can see the animals come down to drink in the morning and afternoon. The people who work there are welcoming and cheerful and you can’t ask for a more relaxing atmosphere. Kulalu Camp is one of my favourite places to stay in East Africa!

Amazing, Memorable & definatley a repeat Trip!!

What a wonderful trip!! By far one of the best Safaris I have ever been on.
The staff are fantastic. Very professional, friendly & nothing is too much trouble.
The food provided is delicious & all made fresh, including the bread which is made each day. The soft ‘dinner rolls’ are incredible & so so fluffy.
The ‘tents’ are large, spacious & the beds are incredibly comfortable. The bathrooms are huge! With all the necessities. There is even a small pool which is lovely for a dip after a hot Safari before a shower.
I will definitely be returning & spreading the word of our incredible stay.
If you’re lucky one of the local elephants might come & say ‘hello’ to remind you how much ‘in the wild’ you truly are. Don’t worry the staff take guest safety very very seriously & will tell you to wait & let them escort you if they (or other animals) are in the camp whilst reassuring you that there is no threat to you.
The best parts;
The camp is really eco-friendly which is a major plus for me.
We arrived on my birthday & the staff when out of their way to make me a cake & present it at the end of dinner.. Totally unexpected but hugely appreciated.

This camp should be on everyone’s bucket list…

Kulalu is a most comfortable and luxurious camp with excellent staff who will accommodate your every need. Set upon the bank of the Galana River with tents opening to view the opposite bank it is a perfect setting. Relaxing in the sun before going for a sundowner (which is a must) or getting up in the morning for an early morning drive to watch a great selection of wildlife.
The food cooked by Justus at Kulalu is second to none and the service by all staff is courteous and efficient.
James is so highly skilled at spotting even the smallest of creature – he stopped for a tortoise which was just ambling through the undergrowth!! You will see plenty of wildlife during your stay at Kulalu.
The camp also has the advantage of an inter-linking tent so when we come back we can have the children close by (i.e. not in the next door tent) yet having their own ‘camping’ experience.
